Should I Use a Real Estate Agent?
Many of the big real estate markets in California, and around the country for that matter, have experienced hot seller’s markets for a few years now.
When houses are selling quickly with a line of buyers trying to edge each other out, sometimes the process seems “easy” to the lay person. This naturally makes them think, “So, what am I paying a commission to this real estate agent for?”
Many people are tempted to go it alone and try the For Sale by Owner route. While everyone is free to make their own decisions, we feel as though hiring a real estate agent or broker is the smartest way to go.
Yeah, we might be a little biased since we are real estate professionals but we have some really good reasons why you need to use an agent or broker.
When you work with a real estate professional one of the first things we do is get your home listed on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS).
This pushes your home out to the world so all of the other agents and brokers can see it as well. That means instead of having one person (you) trying to sell your house, now you have all of the real estate professionals in the area trying to sell your house to their buyers.
We also get you listed on every possible website at no charge to you. That’s something that just won’t happen if you try FSBO.
FSBO = Lower Prices
Look, pricing a house is hard. It might be one of the hardest things us real estate professionals do.
So, it’s not surprise that stats have shown that the averageFSBO home sells for about 15% lessthan homes sold through a realtor, according to Quicken Loans.If you go to sell your home by yourself without the help of a real estate professional, you might be leaving some serious money on the table.
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather pay a 6% commission but sell my house for 15% more.
Take the Emotion Out
Selling a home can be a very emotional process. It’s not just four walls and roof, it’s a place that you lived your life, shared experiences with loved ones, maybe raised a family and so on. So, it’s no wonder that sometimes this emotion can cloud your judgement.
Maybe because your house is so special to you, you think it’s worth more than what the market will bear. It happens all the time.
However, when you work with a real estate agent you have someone that can see past all of those emotions and help you make a rational call.
